From Ashes by K. M. Neuhold

KM NEuhold Banner

I first heard of K. M. Neuhold from The Quirky Blind Date with a Book group that I help run. She was one of our authors, and I didn’t get to read her book when we ran it through the group, but it looked awesome and added a few of her books to my Goodreads. Fast forward a few months to when I actually had some time to read my personal pick books and I decided to start her Heathens Ink series. If you love m/m romances, THIS is the series for you! From Ashes is the 3rd book in the series and I loved it!

Book Description

“When the broken man with scarred skin walked into Heathens, asked for a job, and showed me a sketch of a phoenix, it felt like fate.”~ Adam

It started with an anonymous post by someone who didn’t want to live anymore. I read it over and over again, unable to get it out of my mind. What if my brother Johnny had posted something like this before he’d taken his own life? Would someone have been able to save him?

I’ve been living a lie for 16 long years and I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to keep it up. And when a beautiful, broken man walks into my tattoo shop asking for a second chance at life, I know I’ll never be able to turn him away.

“When I was so far down I couldn’t even see the light, a stranger reached in to save me”~ Nox
I didn’t have anything to live for, until a kind stranger pulled me back from the brink. With physical and emotional scars I have nowhere to turn now but to that same stranger who saved my life without realizing it. But as my feelings for Adam grow, will I ever be anything other than a surrogate for the brother he couldn’t save? Am I even worthy of his love?

From Ashes Teaser 2

My Review

Wow! I really loved From Ashes. As always the characters were amazing. It was nice finally getting to see into Adam’s head, and I loved the new character that was introduced, Nox. His backstory was tragic, and the way that him and Adam first meet online to when they meet in person was a really great storyline.

The only thing I didn’t like was how everything got wrapped up in a pretty little bow with Gage. I felt like there could have been more added to that whole scenario to make it have a little more angst to keep the reader interested. Otherwise the story was great and I really loved it.

Can’t wait to see Gage’s story, or Dani’s depending who she decides to write next 🙂

*also it says this book can be read as a standalone, which it can, but there is a lot of character cross over so for people like me, you need to start the series from the beginning*

K.M.Neuhold has long since been a romance junkie. When she’s not writing she’s reading or spending time snuggling with her husky or her husband. She fell in love with M/M romance last year and hasn’t been able to turn back. There’s nothing she loves more than love in all its forms.

Love in the Friend Zone by Molly E. Lee

Molly Lee has become one of my all time favorite authors. Her Love on the Edge series is one of my favorites, so when I found out that she was writing a YA romance I had to get my hands on it. I really loved this book and the characters. Can’t wait for the next book in the Grad Night series to come out 🙂

Book Description

The only thing worse than not being able to tell your best friend you’re head over heels in love with him? Having to smile and nod when he enlists your help to ensnare the girl of his dreams.

Braylen didn’t even want to go to Lennon Pryor’s epic graduation-night party, but when Fynn begs her to be his “wingwoman,” she can’t deny him. Talking up her BFF—how he’s magic behind a camera, with a killer sense of humor and eyelashes that frame the most gorgeous blue eyes in the history of forever—is easy. Supporting his efforts to woo someone so completely wrong for him? Not so much.

Fynn knows that grad night is his last shot before leaving for college to find true love. And thanks to Bray, he gets his chance with the beautiful Katy Evans. But over the course of the coolest party of their high school careers, he starts to see that perhaps what he really wants has been in front of him all along. Bray’s been his best friend since kindergarten, though, and he’d rather have her in his life as a friend than not at all.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains one epic party, complete with every high-schoolers-gone-bad shenanigan, and two best friends whose sexual chemistry is off the charts…if only they’d succumb to it.

My Review

Love in the Friend Zone was a great story! I loved the characters, I loved the plot, the writing was fabulous. I love how Molly Lee has branched out to YA romance.

Braylen was a great character. A little nerdy and introverted, head over heel in love with her best friend. Fynn was great too, but a little dim when it comes to seeing what’s right in front of him 😉 Their love story was sweet and I kept wanting to just reach through the page and smack someone upside the head every time something was about to happen and they got interrupted. The side characters were amazing, especially Randy! I hope that he will get a book at some point! The next story is going to be Zoey and Gordon’s, and I am desperate to find out what is going on between those two!

The only thing I didn’t like as much is that the book just spans one night. I wish we had more time with the characters, and maybe get to see what happened the day after or something, but I am sure we will see more of these characters and what happens next in future books of the series 🙂

All around an awesome book.

Book Description

Roselette Horton…
Miss Prim and Proper.
Arm candy for one of the richest men in Hoffman.
Fate had her saving my life. Now I’m indebted to repay the favour.
Rose has the biggest stick up her arse. It’s surprising she can even put one foot in front of the other. She has no clue what it means to be living, or who she really is. To the outside world Rose has everything, but to those who pay close attention, it’s nothing short of a well-constructed facade.

I’m Finlay Crossley and I’m a simple misfit from the wrong side of the tracks.
Until three days ago, I didn’t have two cents to rub together.
Rose is my opposite in every way, but as the saying goes—‘opposites attract.’

How in the world does a socialite notice a nobody like me?
It all happens when a loser becomes a winner.

Winner Teaser 3

My Review

At first when I started this book I absolutely loved it! Then 1/4 of the way through it just lost it’s spark. I did enjoy the ending though, and the writing style was great.

At first, I thought Finlay was an amazing character. He was hard working, and caring and protective of those he deemed his family. However, when he became a peeping tom on multiple occasions watching Rose, I just lost respect for his character. Yes, he was confronted about it, and the issue was resolved somewhat, but that just completely changed my vision of his character and something that truely bothered me.

Rose at first was a great character, until we see how her life really is. She is completely walked all over, can’t stand up for herself, and I just couldn’t stand her high society life and how everything had to be about appearance. In the end when she finally discovers her true self, I really liked her character, but 75% of the book, to me, she just felt like a weak heroine.

The side characters were fabulous! I loved all of Finlay’s friends, especially Alan, the boy he takes care of after his parents abandon him. Tessa is a wonderful character as well, and I really loved how spunky and feisty she was. I would love to see a story about Alan someday.

All around the story started great, and just didn’t pan out for me. The ending left me wanting more. It just didn’t feel resolved. The writing style was great, and as always I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

The Brightest Sunset by Aly Martinez

Book Description

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Words destroyed me.
“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.”
“Daddy, he can’t breathe!”
“There’s nothing more we can do for your son.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
“He’s gone.”
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

My Review

This was a wonderful conclusion to The Darkest Sunrise Duet!

The story picked up right where the first one left off. The characters were amazing. I loved Porter and Charlotte, and Travis was such an amazing side character! I love seeing child characters really come to life in stories.

There were so many emotions at play throughout the book, and there were a few times I was about to lose it because I was so anxious about what was going to happen. My heart was just ready to fall out of my chest a few times. It was just an all around amazingly emotional read and I’d highly recommend it!

The Bars Between Us by A. S. Teague

I first discovered A. S. Teague when I signed up for the book tour of Unraveled. I loved the book, and then a few months later she ran Undisputed through Quirky Blind Date. The Bars Between us Teaser

Book Description

I don’t have a damn thing in common with the beautiful rich girl who walks into my bar; she’s southern class, fancy cars, and designer shoes.
I’ve got a drunk for a mother, a cheater for a father, and a reputation for trouble I’ve more than earned.
I look the other way, pretending I don’t notice how perfect she is. She wouldn’t give me the time of day anyway. Until she shatters that first impression and shows me she’s so much more—everything I never thought I deserved.
After a lifetime of being a disappointment, I want to prove to her that I’m better than my past.
We have one tragic thing in common, and the thread that binds us together will tear us apart as it unravels.
Are we strong enough to break through The Bars Between Us?

The Bars Between Us teaser 2

My Review

The Bars Between Us was a really great story. I felt a connection with the characters and the storyline was unique. I thought I had the plot figured out from the start, but it totally went another direction, which was great, because it kept me guessing what the connection was throughout the book.

The characters were wonderful. I loved Bron and Grace’s relationship. Two people from two different worlds, it was totally a star crossed lovers romance. I loved how Grace didn’t care about Bron’s reputation and could see through to the great guy he really was. Bron however didn’t think he was worthy of Grace, and I always love the lead male characters that have that self doubt but grow into this amazing character by the end when they finally see they are worth it.

The start of the story was a little slow for me, but then halfway through it picked up and sucked me into the story. There were a few scenes that I wish were expanded upon, or there was a jump between chapters that I wish more detail could have been added about what happened in that time between chapters (like what happened between Bron and Tony?), but all in all this was a really great story. Definitely recommend!

A.S. Teague enjoys the warmth of South Carolina with her husband and two daughters. The stereotypes about peach cobbler and sweet tea are not overstated. After years in the medical field, she is now enjoying every minute of being a stay-at-home mom. She loves wine, the beach, wine on the beach, and crying at Disney movies. When she doesn’t have a book in her hand, she can be found pestering her husband with pictures of animals she wants to rescue, as well as debating whether to exercise or take a nap.

Swink by Adriana Locke

Book Description

I’m that guy.

Camilla Landry rustles against me, the silky fabric of her overpriced lingerie slipping along my bruised rib. The porcelain perfection of her skin is even more innocent against the colorful ink dotting my own. It’s demure meets damaged, pampered meets punctured.

So, yeah, it’s obvious I’m that guy. Dominic Hughes. Her attempt at rebellion. Her bid to see what the other side of the tracks feel like. I’m okay with being used because, from where I’m sitting, the other side of the tracks have never looked so good.

Swink Teaser 2

My Review

I have read all of the Landry Family books, and I have been dying to find out who Cam’s mystery man was going to be, and let me tell you, Dominic Hughes did NOT disappoint! Throughout the story Cam and Dom struggle with the differences between each other and the worlds they each come from, but love always overcomes.

I loved Dom’s character, and how he tries to protect Cam by trying to keep her away from his world, but Cam won’t let him. He’s fiercely protective, loyal, and a hard worker. He’s the type of guy that doesn’t think he’s good enough to keep the girl, but oh how wrong he is. Cam is head over heels for him, and she’s not going to let go without a fight.

I loved the storyline, I loved the characters, I loved getting to see everyone from the previous books again. I seriously love this series and can’t wait for Sienna’s story to come next 🙂

Definitely recommend this one. I’d read the rest of the Landry series first because they talk about things that have happened with other previous characters, and plus it’s an awesome series. They are pretty quick reads too!

He’s standing in the doorway, one hand on the sweatpants that hang just below his chiseled hips and the other leans on the frame. The tattoos that mark his flesh are vivid against his bare skin, making the blues of his eyes shine.
He flashes a lopsided smile my way. “Took you long enough.”
“I don’t drive like a bat out of hell,” I laugh, stepping past him. “Did you shower already?”
“Yeah. I smelled like gym floors.”
“As long as you don’t smell like gym whores,” I say, setting the bags on the table in the kitchen.
His laugh is contagious and I feel myself smiling. A set of arms cage me in from behind, grasping the table on both sides of me. My skin breaks out in a shiver as his lips find the sensitive spot behind my ear.
His face buries in the crook of my neck and he takes a long, leisurely breath. “You smell so good.”
“Keep doing that,” I say, relaxing my head onto his chest.
“Talking with your mouth against me.”
“You like this?” he asks all breathily so that each word whispers across my skin.
My eyes fall closed as I relish in this moment of nothing but him. “No, I love this.”
“Can I tell you a little secret?”
“As long as you keep talking, you can tell me whatever you want.”
He chuckles, dotting kisses up and down my neck. “I love this too, feeling your body give up the fight of the day and let me take over.” He turns me in his arms so I’m facing him. “I love that you trust me enough to let your shoulders sink out of that perfect posture you walk around with.”
As he reaches up and undoes the elastic in my hair, I watch his features soften. He moves carefully, unwrapping the tie from the twisted mess in my locks, careful not to pull.
“There,” he says, cupping the back of my head through my long tresses, “that’s better.”
“You don’t like my hair up?”
“Not like you had it. You look to lunching-y,” he says, wrinkling his nose.
“Yes,” he grins.
“You are too cute.”
“You are too fucking sexy.”
Reaching up, I swipe the pad of my thumb over the cut above his eye. He flinches, but just for a second. “What happened?”
“Bond’s right hand.”
“I hate him.”
“So do I,” he snickers.
“Let’s get some ice for it.”
He leans in, his brows tugging together. “Let’s not.” His eyes hood as he takes me in, his tongue darting out and wetting his lips. My knees weaken, my body humming with delight at his reaction.
“I want to take care of you,” I whisper, although that’s really on the backburner now. “Let me baby you.”
Instead, he lifts me up and places me on the table. My stomach clenches as he positions himself between my thighs, my sundress curling at my waist. I ring my legs around him, pulling him so close that the soft cotton of his sweatpants rubs against my opening.
He looks down. “You aren’t wearing panties.”

My Review

I really enjoyed this book. It had suspense, mystery, romance, and some humor all wrapped up into one. The characters were interesting, and I felt a good connection to them, but I would have liked to know a little more about Lexi’s background then we find out in the story. Maybe we will see more in the next book of the series.

The story was great. It kept me interested and had me on the edge of my seat, but every once in a while there would be a drawn out scene that could have been shortened a little. The plot, characters (main and side) were great! The attention to detail was there and you could tell a lot of research went into the story.

I’d recommend reading the short novella prequel to this one, Tender Echoes. It was a quick and interesting read, and we find out how Lexi and Ethan have their first encounter. You don’t have to to enjoy Digital Velocity, but I’d highly recommend it to get the most out of the story.

All in all this was a great story. Looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here 🙂

Reily is a West Coast girl transplanted to the opposite shore. When she’s not working with her dogs, you can find her curled up with a book or writing her next story. Past employment as an ICU nurse, private investigator, and work in the military police has given her countless experiences in a host of different environments to add a real world feel to her fiction.
Over time, and several careers, many incidents have flavored the plots of her stories. Man’s cruelty and ingenuity for torment and torture is boundless, not contained by an infinite imagination. Witnessing the after-effects of a teenager mugged at knifepoint for a pair of tennis shoes, or an elderly woman stabbed repeatedly with a screwdriver for no apparent reason, left an indelible impression that will forever haunt her subconscious. In counterpoint, she’s observed a woman stop her vehicle in severe, snowy weather to offer her own winter coat to a stranger, a teenager wearing a threadbare hoodie. Life’s diversities are endless.
Though her kids are her life, writing is Reily’s life after. The one enjoyed after the kids are in bed or after they’re in school and the house is quiet. This is the time she kicks back with laptop and lapdog to give her imagination free rein.
In reading, take pleasure in a mental pause as you root for your favorite hero/heroine and bask in their accomplishments, then share your opinions of them over a coffee with your best friend (even if he’s four-legged). Life is short. Cherish your time.
