Enjoy the Ride by Dr. Rebecca Sharp

I met Dr. Rebecca Sharp at Indies Invade Philly 2018. I love a good sports romance, especially snowboarding and extreme sports, so when I saw her books, I had to pick up her Winter Games series. Enjoy the Ride hadn’t come out yet, and after reading the first two books I was really excited to get my hands on number three! 🙂

My Review

I started reading this series a few weeks before this book came out, and I was addicted to all of the characters and their stories.

Chance and Jessa’s story didn’t disappoint! It was everything I was hoping for and more. I loved the build up we saw from the previous books, so I couldn’t wait to see where their story went. It made me laugh, it made me smile, it made me mad, it made me sad. I was all over the place with this one.

Can’t wait to see where she takes Nick and Tammy’s story next year!

About the Author

Goodreads Page. Website Twitter. Facebook. Amazon

Dr. Rebecca Sharp is an International Amazon Best-selling author of contemporary romance. By day, she is also a doctor living in Pennsylvania with her husband. Growing up, she always loved a good love story and let’s face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn’t!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. She also enjoys traveling with her husband, snowboarding, and cooking.

Author Spotlight – Cara Dee

I recently attended Indies Invade Philly in September, and there were a lot of authors that were new to me there. Cara Dee was one of those authors. Her Aftermath series looked interesting so I picked up a copy of the series, and I am really glad I did, because I loved it! I am definitely going to have to get some more books by her! Auctioned was another book that looked really good and that will have to be the next one I grab! She writes a little bit of everything, so you are sure to find one of her books that sparks your interest 😉

Here’s some teasers for the 2 books that I just finished by Cara. The stories sucked me in, and I seriously can’t decide which book was my favorite.

Author Bio

I’m often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

Undefeated by Jane Harvey Berrick and Stuart Reardon

Undefeated Blog Tour

Undefeated is the newest book by author Jane Harvey Berrick and co written by Stuart Reardon. If you’ve followed my blog before, you know Jane is one of my all time favorite authors, so I was really looking forward to this new release. As always, Jane brings her amazing writing style to the table, and Stuart brought so much detail and depth into the book because of his experience as a professional rugby player. This was definitely a great match up! (I also love the fact that Stuart is also the cover model for the book 😉

Undefeated released January 23rd.

Book Description

When your world crashes down…
When they all say you’re out…
When your body is broken…
I will rise.
I will return.
And I will be undefeated.

Nick Renshaw is the golden boy of British rugby. When a serious injury threatens his career, he starts to spiral downwards, a broken man.

Feeling abandoned and betrayed by those closest to him, he fights to restart his life. Maybe there’s someone out there who can help him. Maybe he can find his way back toward the light. Maybe … not.

Dr. Anna Scott might be the one person who can help Nick, but she has her own secrets. And when Nick’s past comes back to haunt them both, the enigmatic doctor is more vulnerable than she seems.

Broken and betrayed, the struggle to survive seems intolerable. Who will give in, and who will rise, undefeated?

My Review

I have been a fan of Jane Harvey Berrick for awhile, so when I saw she was co writing a book with Stuart Reardon I was excited, but not sure what to expect with another writer and writing style added into the mix. After reading Undefeated, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised how well they both meshed together to bring this book to the readers.

Jane always has a way with words, and her style of writing always grabs you and brings you into the story. Adding in Stuart to that mix really created a whole different experience. The knowledge and personal experience with rugby really brings the reader into the middle of scenes and you can picture yourself there watching and seeing it. It really was a great combination.

The story was great, and I really loved the main characters. They both go through so much throughout the story and you just keep flipping the pages to see what is going to happen to them next. It’s just an all around amazing story and I highly recommend you pick it up and read it 🙂

Read an excerpt!

It’s been noticed,” she began carefully, “that you’re not engaging with the team or … or with me during my teaching sessions.”

His lips pressed together and his scowl deepened.

“Look, I know this is all kinds of awkward,” she sighed, “but your behaviour is already giving Sim concerns. It’s making him wonder about your commitment to the team.”

Nick exploded, his anger filling the space as he leapt to his feet and began to pace up and down, hands scrubbing over his face roughly.

“He’s questioning my commitment?! I train harder than anyone! I train on my off-days,” he spat furiously, his voice tight with emotion.

“I’m out there, slogging my fucking guts out harder and longer than anyone else during practices!”

“I’ve fought to come back from injury. I’m fit! I’m ready! I…”

“NICK!” Anna slapped her hand down on the massage table. “Will you listen to me!”

His jaw snapped shut and his stormy eyes narrowed on hers.

“Sim didn’t see that commitment during my sessions.”

“And we both know why that is,” he sneered. “You don’t want any commitment from me.”

Anna’s eyebrows shot up and Nick looked as though he was already regretting his words. He took a deep breath and looked away while Anna chose her next words carefully.

“You assured me that you could be professional and…”

“Yeah, well excuse me if seeing you again is fucking with my head! Not everyone can be as cold and calculating as you!”

She knew she deserved his anger, but her own frustration was rising to meet his. The volcanic pressure inside started to build, searching for an exit, searching for weakness.

“I cannot have any sort of relationship with a client!” she hissed, her body rigid. “You know that!”

“Didn’t stop you before,” he taunted.

“You weren’t a client then,” she choked. “But you’re right—I should have stopped. Oh boy, am I regretting it now!”

And she tossed her clipboard onto the table, pointing a finger in his face.

“Are you trying to ruin this for me? Is that what this is? Your ego can’t bear it, so you’re going to make sure I lose this contract? Or maybe ruining my reputation forever will settle the score. You tell me, Nick! What do you want from me?”

She was breathing rapidly, and two points of colour marked her cheeks in an otherwise chalky complexion.

He spun around, prowling toward her, his jaw clenched, his hands balled into fists.

“What do I want? I want to fuck you so hard you’ll never forget it’s my cock that’s been inside you. I want you screaming my name. I want you to say it wasn’t a mistake. I want to make you come so hard you pass out. That’s what I want, Anna, and it’s fucking killing me to not even touch you!”

From Ashes by K. M. Neuhold

KM NEuhold Banner

I first heard of K. M. Neuhold from The Quirky Blind Date with a Book group that I help run. She was one of our authors, and I didn’t get to read her book when we ran it through the group, but it looked awesome and added a few of her books to my Goodreads. Fast forward a few months to when I actually had some time to read my personal pick books and I decided to start her Heathens Ink series. If you love m/m romances, THIS is the series for you! From Ashes is the 3rd book in the series and I loved it!

Book Description

“When the broken man with scarred skin walked into Heathens, asked for a job, and showed me a sketch of a phoenix, it felt like fate.”~ Adam

It started with an anonymous post by someone who didn’t want to live anymore. I read it over and over again, unable to get it out of my mind. What if my brother Johnny had posted something like this before he’d taken his own life? Would someone have been able to save him?

I’ve been living a lie for 16 long years and I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to keep it up. And when a beautiful, broken man walks into my tattoo shop asking for a second chance at life, I know I’ll never be able to turn him away.

“When I was so far down I couldn’t even see the light, a stranger reached in to save me”~ Nox
I didn’t have anything to live for, until a kind stranger pulled me back from the brink. With physical and emotional scars I have nowhere to turn now but to that same stranger who saved my life without realizing it. But as my feelings for Adam grow, will I ever be anything other than a surrogate for the brother he couldn’t save? Am I even worthy of his love?

From Ashes Teaser 2

My Review

Wow! I really loved From Ashes. As always the characters were amazing. It was nice finally getting to see into Adam’s head, and I loved the new character that was introduced, Nox. His backstory was tragic, and the way that him and Adam first meet online to when they meet in person was a really great storyline.

The only thing I didn’t like was how everything got wrapped up in a pretty little bow with Gage. I felt like there could have been more added to that whole scenario to make it have a little more angst to keep the reader interested. Otherwise the story was great and I really loved it.

Can’t wait to see Gage’s story, or Dani’s depending who she decides to write next 🙂

*also it says this book can be read as a standalone, which it can, but there is a lot of character cross over so for people like me, you need to start the series from the beginning*

Love in the Friend Zone by Molly E. Lee

Molly Lee has become one of my all time favorite authors. Her Love on the Edge series is one of my favorites, so when I found out that she was writing a YA romance I had to get my hands on it. I really loved this book and the characters. Can’t wait for the next book in the Grad Night series to come out 🙂

Book Description

The only thing worse than not being able to tell your best friend you’re head over heels in love with him? Having to smile and nod when he enlists your help to ensnare the girl of his dreams.

Braylen didn’t even want to go to Lennon Pryor’s epic graduation-night party, but when Fynn begs her to be his “wingwoman,” she can’t deny him. Talking up her BFF—how he’s magic behind a camera, with a killer sense of humor and eyelashes that frame the most gorgeous blue eyes in the history of forever—is easy. Supporting his efforts to woo someone so completely wrong for him? Not so much.

Fynn knows that grad night is his last shot before leaving for college to find true love. And thanks to Bray, he gets his chance with the beautiful Katy Evans. But over the course of the coolest party of their high school careers, he starts to see that perhaps what he really wants has been in front of him all along. Bray’s been his best friend since kindergarten, though, and he’d rather have her in his life as a friend than not at all.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains one epic party, complete with every high-schoolers-gone-bad shenanigan, and two best friends whose sexual chemistry is off the charts…if only they’d succumb to it.

My Review

Love in the Friend Zone was a great story! I loved the characters, I loved the plot, the writing was fabulous. I love how Molly Lee has branched out to YA romance.

Braylen was a great character. A little nerdy and introverted, head over heel in love with her best friend. Fynn was great too, but a little dim when it comes to seeing what’s right in front of him 😉 Their love story was sweet and I kept wanting to just reach through the page and smack someone upside the head every time something was about to happen and they got interrupted. The side characters were amazing, especially Randy! I hope that he will get a book at some point! The next story is going to be Zoey and Gordon’s, and I am desperate to find out what is going on between those two!

The only thing I didn’t like as much is that the book just spans one night. I wish we had more time with the characters, and maybe get to see what happened the day after or something, but I am sure we will see more of these characters and what happens next in future books of the series 🙂

All around an awesome book.

To the outside world Rose has everything, but to those who pay close attention, it’s nothing short of a well-constructed facade.

Rose is my opposite in every way, but as the saying goes—‘opposites attract.’

How in the world does a socialite notice a nobody like me?
It all happens when a loser becomes a winner.

Winner Teaser 3

My Review

At first when I started this book I absolutely loved it! Then 1/4 of the way through it just lost it’s spark. I did enjoy the ending though, and the writing style was great.

At first, I thought Finlay was an amazing character. He was hard working, and caring and protective of those he deemed his family. However, when he became a peeping tom on multiple occasions watching Rose, I just lost respect for his character. Yes, he was confronted about it, and the issue was resolved somewhat, but that just completely changed my vision of his character and something that truely bothered me.

Rose at first was a great character, until we see how her life really is. She is completely walked all over, can’t stand up for herself, and I just couldn’t stand her high society life and how everything had to be about appearance. In the end when she finally discovers her true self, I really liked her character, but 75% of the book, to me, she just felt like a weak heroine.

The side characters were fabulous! I loved all of Finlay’s friends, especially Alan, the boy he takes care of after his parents abandon him. Tessa is a wonderful character as well, and I really loved how spunky and feisty she was. I would love to see a story about Alan someday.

All around the story started great, and just didn’t pan out for me. The ending left me wanting more. It just didn’t feel resolved. The writing style was great, and as always I’m looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

The Brightest Sunset by Aly Martinez

I have read almost every book by Aly Martinez, and let me tell you…. they have all been amazing! Check out her newest book The Brightest Sunset, the conclusion to The Darkest Sunrise Duet.

Book Description

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Words destroyed me.
“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.”
“Daddy, he can’t breathe!”
“There’s nothing more we can do for your son.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
“He’s gone.”
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

My Review

This was a wonderful conclusion to The Darkest Sunrise Duet!

The story picked up right where the first one left off. The characters were amazing. I loved Porter and Charlotte, and Travis was such an amazing side character! I love seeing child characters really come to life in stories.

There were so many emotions at play throughout the book, and there were a few times I was about to lose it because I was so anxious about what was going to happen. My heart was just ready to fall out of my chest a few times. It was just an all around amazingly emotional read and I’d highly recommend it!
