She’s at the end of her rope . . .
Charlie Anderson needs a farm hand. The moment the sexy, mysterious stranger sets foot on her grandparents’ land, inquiring about a job opening, he rattles her senses, her cage, and her equilibrium, the likes of which she’s never experienced before. She never anticipated her scandalous thoughts getting in the way. She’s terrified, but desire trumps fear, and she gives in to a sinful temptation.
He has a hidden agenda . . .
Alex McCray has a plan. A plan having nothing to do with romance. His discovery, that “Charlie” is a voluptuous, beautiful woman, leaves him shaken, and he needs to proceed with extreme caution. Working next to her, everyday, stirs up a raw hunger he desperately tries to ignore. And he should, since he has an ulterior motive. Alex should also resist her intoxicating sensuality, but he can’t, because he cannot get enough.
On a Gamble was a sweet story that I really enjoyed. Charlie is helping to run the family farm that is owned by her grandparents. When Charlie realizes she needs to hire help to run the day to day operations of the farm in walks Alex, but Alex has ulterior motives for seeking employment at the farm. Charlie and Alex tip toe around each other until finally they can’t hide their feelings anymore. What will happen when Charlie finally realizes Alex isn’t who she thinks he is? Is their love enough to survive the lies?
This story had a really great concept, I liked the characters, the plot, and the setting. Where this story fell short was the details. Charlie and Alex were wonderful characters, but there’s so many questions I was left with at the end. What happened with Alex’s past, we get a small snippet, but not much else. I would have loved for him to really open up to Charlie and discuss it. Also the relationship with his father and “the deal”. There were so many questions I had, and so many holes that weren’t filled in that left me wondering at the end of the book. How would it have happened? What information did they have to be able to go through with it? It just seemed like there wasn’t enough information to make it plausible. Also more detail about Alex’s family would have been nice. I don’t want to get into much else because I don’t want to spoil anything.
There were things I loved about the story though. The dialogue was great and flowed nicely, the relationship between Alex and Charlie was really sweet and the emotions came through the pages. I loved the slow burn of their love and the hay loft scene was one of my favorites. The twist was heart breaking and emotional and I really felt for the characters. Grandma and Grandpa were both sweet and fun loving characters as well. This was a great story but just needed a little more added to make it more believable and to connect the reader to the story.
I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Rose Lange 🙂
